LIVING IN LUTON

One of the major benefits of Luton as a town is that it places you close to one of the great cities of the world – London. Nestled between the Chiltern Hills, Luton provides you with access to London in just 30-minutes. Although the town itself isn’t as big as other University towns in the country, this close proximity to the capital does ensure that students have the best of both worlds when studying in the cosmopolitan town. These fantastic road and rail links make it the perfect base from which to explore many different parts of the UK, and if you are thinking about travelling abroad, Luton has its own international airport with budget flights to many different parts of the world.

Luton Universities

Our Luton student accommodation is perfect for those students attending the University of Bedfordshire, Luton International College, or Bedfordshire College. The University of Bedfordshire was created in 2006 after a merger between the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University. It is home to 14,000 students, with a healthy 4,500 international students living in the town. This adds to the multicultural and welcoming nature of Luton, as a town where over 100 languages are spoken. Luton Campus was opened in 2010 as part of the University of Bedfordshire and it is well planned out for social activity as well as learning.

There are learning zones, a student exhibition area, cafes, bars, and restaurants, as well as a significant Student’s Union. On-campus students can also take advantage of a Postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development Centre, which includes state-of-the-art IT and AV equipment, learning spaces, large ‘Harvard-style’ lecture theatres, lounge, café, and the Luton Learning Resource Centre that is home to over 200,000 books, 9,000 journals, and 300 PCs. The Luton campus of the university is home to students specialising in Business, Art and Design, Computing, Social Sciences, Law, Psychology, Science, and Media.

Stimulating and Flexible Education

Luton International College is a co-educational college that offers courses in health and social care, and business to students arriving from all over the world. The courses are designed to be stimulating and flexible, providing a challenging and supportive environment for students to grow. Bedford College provides a range of courses and support for those looking to get into higher education, wish to take on part-time study around a career, or want to gain specific qualifications to enhance job prospects.

The University of Bedfordshire

The Luton campus of The University of Bedfordshire is one of the most beautiful parts of the town, with the medieval architecture and sumptuous gardens being a haven for students and tourists alike, especially when the weather is nice. The town as a whole is certainly student-friendly, and with over 200-pubs is never dull for a night out as a student. There is a wide range of pubs, clubs and nightclubs to visit, and if you are looking for something a little bit more casual, the Galaxy Leisure complex in the centre of the town is home to an 11-screen cinema, bowling alley, bingo hall, games arcade and a choice of food and drink. The Mall is a shopping centre that is home to al of the top high-street brands that you know and love, and right on the doorstep of our student accommodation. If you are looking for something a little different Luton Indoor Market is a fantastic place to while away the hours, looking for bargains and chatting to staff away from the high street. The Indoor Market is open 6-days a week (Monday to Saturday).

History and Culture

There is plenty of history and culture in Luton, with the first settlements traced back 250,000 years in the area. It is recorded in the Doomsday Book as a trading post in the 6th century, and for history lovers, there is plenty to get excited about in the city, as well as more modern arts and culture such as the hat-making factory art centre. Luton Town provides a Football League club to support, whilst Stockwood Park is the home for many a golfer of any level.
