1. Barbican Pasta Bar

The Barbican Pasta Bar has been a much-loved restaurant in Plymouth for over 28 years, having won countless awards for their high quality food and service. 

This family run eatery is located on the Barbican waterfront and serves fresh pasta dishes, stone baked pizzas, as well as char grilled and pan fried plates. 

We recommend trying their Korma Pasta with chicken and mushrooms coated in a mild curry sauce served with spaghetti.

Of course we’d go for a garlic bread to go with our dish, but that’s just us!

2. The Harbour Seafood Restaurant & Takeaway

The Harbour Seafood Restaurant & Takeaway is a stylish food hub located in Sutton Harbour, with a menu consisting of locally caught seafood along with other flavourful dishes. 

If you’re after a mouth-watering dish, try their Moules Mariniere with mussels, white wine, garlic butter with bread and served with unlimited homemade chips.

Not tickling your fancy? How about their famous scallop burger with breaded scallops, lettuce, red onions, tomato, and chilli jam mayo.

This award winning restaurant is perched upon the quay front so you can admire the stunning views whilst wining and dining.

3. The Leandra

The Leandra is a traditional Greek restaurant which has been a part of Plymouth’s food scene for over 30 years, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. 

No matter the occasion you won’t be disappointed when eating out at this family-run restaurant.

The menu is full of tasty dishes and it’s also great value for money, with two courses for £16.95 or 3 courses for £18.95. 

If you’re not sure what to order, go for their Greek Moussaka for the main course – mmm! 

With its convenient location on Frankfort Gate, this restaurant is a must if you’re studying in the city centre.

4. Kapadokya Turkish Restaurant

For authentic home-made Turkish cuisine, you need to head to Kapadokya.

Located down on Plymouth’s historic Barbican, this quaint little restaurant is furnished with cosy decor and offers a wide selection of meats, fish and vegetarian dishes for you to choose from. 

For a real taste of Turkey, we urge you to try their Kleftiko, with tender pieces of lamb shoulder, slowly braised with red wine, tomatoes and onions and served with pilaf rice.

It’s not just a great place to head to for a nice dinner, they’re also open at lunch time so you can chat over some treats and coffee!

5. KUKU 

We weren’t kidding when we said there’s cuisine from every corner of the world in this coastal city, and an absolute must-try for Japanese offerings is KUKU.

The menu at this Princess Street venue has a wide variety of Japanese specialities including sushi and traditional grilled dishes. 

A popular option you need to order is the Tori Yuzu Kosho, consisting of baby chicken marinated in fermented yuzu rind, curry spices and turmeric. 

They also have plenty of vegan and gluten-free options like the Tofu Teriyaki Tofu so everyone can enjoy the fresh and great-tasting food. 

For a stylish lunch or dinner, make sure to give this place a try – you won’t regret it!

6. Toot 

Toot is a funky authentic Persian restaurant situated on Mayflower Street in the heart of the city centre. 

If you’re fancying something a little different but don’t want to spend a fortune, the menu here is perfect and has something to suit every taste-bud. 

For us, we’d go for the Persian Meatballs which is cinnamon flavoured lamb and beef meatballs in an aromatic tomato sauce and served with saffron rice. 

If you’re after a plant-based option, why not try their Vegan Ghormeh Sabzi?

It’s finely chopped herbs, fried kidney beans and sun dried lime served with saffron rice. 

Don’t shy away from this place, they even have a Persian roof terrace which is perfect for relaxing on those warmer evenings!

7. Lorenzos

Lorenzos is an iconic Spanish haven that has been a part of Plymouth’s restaurant scene for over 25 years. 

This casual and colourful venue even has live music nights throughout the week so you won’t just be blown away by the great tasting plates, but also the entertainment too. 

If you’re after an authentic Spanish feel, we’d recommend ordering a few Tapas plates with your friends.

Don’t worry, they also offer mains and house specials if you’d rather.

It’s not just food which is a highlight here, they also have a selection of wines, Sangria, beers and a huge variety of cocktails too.

8. Arribas Mexican Restaurant

When it comes to Plymouth restaurants, Arribas Mexican Restaurant is a local favourite. 

Once you step inside this restaurant you’ll be mesmerised by the Mexican decor with funky wall hangings and colourful tables.

For amazing flavours, we have to suggest ordering the Fiesta Quesadilla or Ancho Steak Chilli. 

The bottomless booze supper is worth trying here too and they even have an upstairs Tequila bar. 

For £35 you can make the most of 2 tasty courses and unlimited drinks for 90 minutes so it’s great value for money!

You’ll definitely leave happy when eating here, so make sure to ditch the cooking for one night and try it…
